In May of 2023 she joined the staff of Wild Bird Rescue and hopes to be a valuable member of the team and encourage everyone to do their best. Melissa is a long-time resident of the North Texas area and attended High School in Seymour then moved to Wichita Falls to attend Midwestern State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Organismal Biology at Midwestern State in May of 2021 and worked 5 years in the Fungal Pathogenesis research laboratory under her mentor. Her favorite biology topics are taxonomy, classification, and understanding how living organisms have gotten to where they are today. Her favorite thing to do at Wild Bird Rescue is to work with the ambassadors and volunteers, whether its teaching them how to overcome their fears of feeding baby birds or encouraging them in general. She plans to continue her education by joining a master’s program and researching native birds, while educating and encouraging people to be involved in our natural world.
